Karina Yager (Ph.D., 2009, Yale University) is a transdisciplinary scholar on the human dimensions of climate change. Yager has worked in the Andes of South America for over twenty years with indigenous communities and local stakeholders to identify adaptive strategies for sustainable management of mountain ecosystems impacted by climate change. Karina completed her doctoral degree in Anthropology (Cultural Ecology) from Yale University, and her postdoctoral research at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (Biospheric Sciences). Dr. Yager is currently Associate Professor in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences at Stony Brook University, New York. She teaches courses on Global Environmental Change and the Age of the Anthropocene. Karina is dedicated to creating translational research products that bridge science and local ecological knowledge that create opportunities for adaptive action to climate change. In particular, her work aims to empower decision-making for vulnerable communities of the South that are least responsible for climate change, though most highly impacted.
